Ferrari 288 GTO 1984 Black 1:12

In 1984, Enzo Ferrari had for several years been concentrating all his efforts on competition and, in particular, on Formula 1.

However, in order to fill the gaping hole that already existed between sports cars and production cars at the time, the Maranello-based company decided to design and offer a car that would comply with the FIA Group B definition, i.e. competitive both on the road and on the racetrack and meeting the minimum production requirement of 200 examples.

Ferrari took advantage of the situation to bring out a prestigious acronym from its drawers: GTO (‘Gran Turismo Omologato’).

The 200 units built were snapped up by lucky enthusiasts before production began, and Ferrari even decided to produce 72 additional examples to satisfy some of the high demand. In terms of finish, at FF 935,000 for the ‘base’ version in 1984, the wealthy customer could only choose the colour of the seat upholstery, either full black or black/orange. The exterior colour was exclusively available in red. The radio, air conditioning and electric windows were all optional extras.
