Three years before his victory at Le Mans, José Froilan Gonzalez (born in 1922) gave Ferrari the first of its 219 F1 victories. That year, he took part in the 24 Hours for the second time, at the wheel of a Talbot-Lago shared with his compatriot Onofre Marimon.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIt was in 1954 that José Froilan Gonzalez and Maurice Trintignant were reunited at Le Mans, in one of the three cars entered by Scuderia Ferrari. Although they had both made their debuts at Sarthe in 1950, the former had never seen the chequered flag, while the latter finished for the first time in 1953 (sixth in a Gordini). Together, they won the race.
